9th Ordinary Session of National Assembly opened

The 9th Ordinary Session of National Assembly of the sixth legislature was officially opened yesterday under chairmanship of President of National Assembly Thongsing Thammavong.
Laos still faces various challenges as a consequence of complicated situations in the world and region, said National Assembly President Thongsing at the opening ceremony of the 9th Ordinary Session of National Assemblys sixth legislature yesterday..
He continued that the investment, trade and tourism sectors of Laos have been impacted by the global economic crisis over the past years.
However, the national economic growth has remained at high level thanks to the political stability and social orderliness, which is a basic factor of favourable conditions for socio-economic development, Mr Thongsing highlighted.
The living conditions of Lao ethnic people has been dramatically improved after approving a policy on poverty reduction and the promotion of market-oriented production in rural and remote areas, he further stated.
He added that the large number of people living in rural and remote areas have accessed to the water supply, education system and primary health care. The social culture has also been developed.
However, if compared to the real demands in the new period, Laos has a lot of challenges issues, negative impacts and others shortcomings that should be improved and resolved.
Laos should pay more attention to improve the micro finance management, collection of revenue and state budget expenditure management, which is being implemented without proper method, he advised. These problems restrained the socio-economic development in the country.
Yesterdays meeting Prime Minister Bouasone Boupphavanh also reported the implementation of previous state budget plan (2009-2010) and proposed a draft plan of 2010-2011 state budget. Under the next plan, the economy is expected to be grown by 8 per cent and the inflation will be capped on one digit.
The implementation of previous plans and next year plans of the Peoples Supreme Court, the Public Prosecutors Office, and the State Inspection Office were also passed the meeting. The National Assembly members of the Sixth Legislature will consider and approve some new draft laws on the protection of consumers, statistic and HIV-AIDS prevention.
